The first two games were about stealth and blending in whereas this game is more guns-blazing. Of course, the biggest change is from top-down to first-person, but there is also a change in level dynamics.
So for this rank, I finally sat down, downloaded a mod that allowed me to use both keyboard and mouse, and got to playing through all six chapters on the “Bring ‘Em On!” difficulty.īefore I can go any further about this game, I need to address the elephant in the room, that being the fundamental changes this game makes, even outside of the perspective. The thing about playing like this, though, is that I only really played through the first few levels many times while not getting much farther than that. I have many memories of sitting at the high school library computers playing this game online to pass the time. as he tries to stop the Nazis from starting chemical warfare.įor many, including myself, Wolfenstein 3D is the true beginning of the Wolfenstein series as well as the start of first-person shooters. The next three chapters are a prequel to the events of the first three chapters, and it follows B.J. The third chapter has him infiltrating a bunker and killing Hitler. The second chapter follows him trying to destroy a secret Nazi plan to create an undead army. While trying to steal Nazi plans, he was caught, and the first chapter is all about him trying to escape Castle Wolfenstein. Wolfenstein 3D follows William “B.J.” Blazkowicz, an American spy in World War 2.
As always, you can find the rank itself here. shareware copies of wolf 3d, SOD 1, and 2 very fun mods are included. The ranking of Wolfenstein continues, and this time it’s going over not only the most iconic entry in the series, but one of the most iconic shooters of all time.
Read the included documentation for information on how to set everything up.
To round out the whole project I remade the icon, it is now a throwback to the original Castle Wolfenstein game. I also chose to replace the "select game" image with a simple Wolf 3D font and the cursor with an out-of-focus pixilated knife. I had a bit of fun with the shareware games, a quick Santa hat and beard for the XMAS mod and something a bit scarier for the Halloween mod. For SOD 2 and 3 proper cover photos were used in place of the repeated SOD photo.
For SOD another higher resolution cover photo was used. A much higher resolution cover photo was used for Wolf 3D, the details are much clearer and the font is crisper. For this project I updated the image files significantly. This image file is what gets displayed on the main menu. The order I chose was Wolf 3D, followed by the 3 SOD games, followed by two shareware mods of my choosing.Įach directory is assigned a corresponding PNG file. By doing this we are able to force the menu into displaying the various games in our own personal order. This project is a directory mod of sorts, basically the folder names remain the same but the files inside them have been swapped around. However, the developer hard-locked the directory structure into 6 folders that appear in the main menu in one specific order.
The official Wolf 3D v6.0 PSP release is set up to support full copies of Wolf 3D, Spear of Destiny 1, 2, and 3, and 2 shareware titles.
